The new mystery series Echoes boasts a cast of well-known stars as well as bright newbies. Released in August, the show has surprised everyone by becoming Netflix's number one show, with people watching it for a combined total of more than 25 million hours. Echoes now leads the top 10 list of the most popular English-language TV series on the OTT platform, racing past the highly anticipated release of the month- The Sandman.

The seven-episode limited series follows Gina McCleary as she returns to North Carolina after her twin sister Leni (also played by Michelle Monaghan) goes missing. While more questions about their family emerge, Gina tries to determine where Leni has gone and who might be responsible for her absence. Gina and Leni's connection in"> Echoes is particularly distressing because they constantly switched lives and no one could tell them apart except for their now-deceased mother. The American-Australian series was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, whose idyllic settings only add to the eeriness of the plot.

Michelle Monaghan As Leni & Gina

Gina and Leni McCleary, the main characters in Echoes, are played by actor Michelle Monaghan, who has also worked in notable shows like Sleepless and True Detective. In the Mission: Impossible films, Monaghan plays Ethan Hunt's wife, a role for which she is well known. She also appeared previously in films like The Bourne Supremacy and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Monaghan most recently appeared in the OTT thriller series Messiah.

In the first season of the anthology crime drama series True Detective (2014) Monaghan played Maggie Hart. for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category.

While she may be a well-known face of silver screen and television, Monaghan started her acting career with two supporting appearances in shows Young Americans and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. Her breakthrough television role came in 2002 with the drama series Boston Public. However, it was her role in Robert Downey Jr starrer Kiss Kiss Bang Bang that propelled Monaghan into the big league.

Monaghan is married to Peter White, a graphic artist whom she met in the year 2000. The couple is parents to a daughter and a son.
