The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has decided on promoting students of class 6 and 7 without conducting any examinations.

The Rajasthan Board's decision comes at a time when the number of COVID-19 cases are escalating in the state. The state is currently bracing against the second wave of the virus.

The decision of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education will apply across the entire state.

About two days ago, the RBSE had released the revised timetable for the class 8 board exams. The exam will commence on May 5 with an English language paper and will end on May 29 with the third language paper.

“On the instructions of the state government, the 8th class examination program has been amended by the department. Now Class 8 examinations will be held in the revised time i.e. morning shift. This decision has brought great relief to millions of students," read a tweet from the education department of Rajasthan.

Board exams for class 10 and 12 to begin from the first week of May

Meanwhile, the class 10 and 12 exams will begin on May 6, and will also end on May 29. Candidates who are appearing for the exams will have to follow all the COVID-19 protocols.

On April 4, the Rajasthan government had called for strict restrictions due to the COVID-19 situation in the state. One of these restrictions stated that schools for classes 1 to 9 would remain shut till April 19. Even colleges were shut (except for final year students).

According to the Union Ministry of Health, Rajasthan contributes to about 83.02 per cent of the new COVID-19 infections in the country. About 1,68,912 fresh Coronavirus cases were recorded within a span of 24 hours in the country. This is the highest single-day rise, ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
