Maharashtra board exams postponed: The examinations for classes 10 and 12 of the Maharashtra state board have been postponed owing to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, State Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad announced on April 12. This is due to the dire COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra. The minister said that class 10 exams will be held in June and that class 12 exams will be conducted by the end of May. Gaikwad added that the dates for the aforementioned examinations will be announced soon.

Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad also said that the state government will be writing to the CBSE, ICSE, IB and Cambridge boards as well to reconsider dates for the exams.

Maharashtra Education minister Varsha Gaikwad warns against spread of misinformation

Earlier, a tweet regarding the cancellation of class 10 and 12 exams started doing the rounds on Twitter. The tweet had a picture of minister Varsha Gaikwad along with a statement which read: “Maharashtra Board class 10, 12 exams have been cancelled." However, it was then found out that the tweet was fake and was not from her official Twitter handle. Gaikwad also warned everyone about the misinformation being spread in her name.

“Beware! I’ve got to know that some morphed images of my Twitter handle are being circulated to spread misinformation about exams. Only trust information from official handles and platforms. Please do not fall for any kind of misinformation," she tweeted.

A few days ago, Varsha Gaikwad had said that the education department of Maharashtra will make a decision regarding the board exams soon. However, she added that their decision will need the approval of Maharashtra's Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The examinations for class 10 and 12 were supposed to begin from April 23 and 29, 2021 respectively. However, both students and their parents started voicing their concerns on the matter, demanding for the postponement of the exams due to the COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra.
