The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for 2021 has now been postponed, due to the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.
The exam was supposed to be held on May 9 and was then postponed to June 13, 2021. However, the revised schedule for the exam will be released soon. The decisions regarding the examination were made by the Executive Committee of the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLU) in a meeting held on Saturday.
CLAT 2021 was going to be held in the month of June
Besides the postponement of CLAT, the last date to apply for it has been extended to June 15, 2021. Earlier the last date for the application process was extended to 30 April 2021 and was further extended till May 15. The initial date was 31 March.
The application fee for the exam is Rs. 4,000 (Rs. 3,500 for SC/ST candidates).
Last month, the Consortium of National Law Universities had informed that it will be taking the decision regarding the examination within the first week of May. It also said that it will give the revised dates later.
The notification said: “All applicants of CLAT-2021 are hereby informed that the Consortium of National Law Universities is monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation and will take stock of the situation in the first week of May 2021 regarding the date of the test."
Candidates Appeal for postponement of the exam
Many students have been in favour of postponing the exam, and have taken to social media to voice their concerns. Many aspirants were concerned about the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Some said that they would find it difficult to appear for the exam in a situation like this, due to lack of transport. Many students can breathe a sigh of relief as the exam has been postponed.
