This initiative is a collaborative effort involving the DMRC, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the DMRP. The campaign directs that anyone violating this rule will be obliged to pay a hefty fine.

Campaign Details

The special campaign commenced on the evening of September 1 and is scheduled to run for the next ten days, concluding on September 10, 2023 (Sunday). It will be implemented on all Delhi Metro corridors between 06:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs. The fine for male passengers found in women-only coaches amounts to ₹250, as stated by the official.

A senior official mentioned that the initiative's duration might be prolonged depending on the results obtained.

Announcement On 'X'

"Today, Delhi Metro commenced a special campaign to prevent male passengers from entering women's coaches. This joint effort by DMRC, CISF, and DMRP will run from 6 pm to 10 pm on all network lines for the next ten days until September 10, 2023," announced the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on 'X'.

The statement on 'X' further noted, "The continuation of this campaign may be considered beyond the initial ten-day period, contingent on the outcomes achieved. Appropriate punitive measures will be taken against violators in accordance with existing regulations," accompanied by images of the campaign.

The first coach of Delhi metro trains, following the direction of travel on all lines, is designated exclusively for female passengers. It is situated immediately after the train's driver's cab. Nevertheless, children up to the age of 12, accompanied by female passengers, are permitted to travel in the reserved coach.

This measure is intended to alleviate overcrowding in the coaches and ensure safe and comfortable journeys for women traveling on the metro.

What May Have Prompted The Move?

A recent short video clip, posted on X via the popular page 'Ghar Ke Kalesh,' depicts a tense encounter involving a man who entered the women's coach along with a female companion.

In clear defiance of the metro authorities' prescribed guidelines, the man confidently states that he has no intention of causing inconvenience to anyone.

However, this assertion leads to a heated dispute with a female passenger who challenges his disregard for railway regulations. The situation escalated significantly when the man's female companion tried to physically engage with the protesting woman, as captured in the video.
