Shweta Tiwari made headlines after her controversial statement during a press conference in Bhopal for the promotions of her upcoming web series. In the reported statement, Tiwari said - "Meri bra ka size bhagwaan le rahe hain." (God is measuring my bra size) While many are demanding the boycott of her web series for the offensive remarks, the Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh has initiated an enquiry in the matter.

Shweta Tiwari Bra Remark And Other Controversial Statements:

Sambhavna Seth-

In one of the videos she made with her domestic house-help, Seth made some casteist slur that did not go well with the Adivasi community. Seth and her husband made fun of the maid's language and native place. Netizens tagged them and blamed them for being so insensitive in their so-called "fun video". The actor later took down the post from her social media profile and apologised to everyone for it. In the apology video posted by her, she wrote- "We are also hurt because you are hurt". Read here.

Sonam Kapoor-

Sonam Kapoor stigmatised the age factor in the industry, even more, when the industry is trying to overcome the age insecurity related to the acting profession. In one of the interviews, she referred to the former Miss World and the Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai as "aunty". On being asked about Rai being replaced by her for a famous beauty brand that she was associated with, Kapoor said -"Aishwarya is an aunty from another generation." Later on she also said- "Ash(Aishwarya Rai) has worked with my dad so I have to call her aunty na?" People objected to her and called her for being rude.

Munmun Dutta-

A case was filed against the actor known for her role of "Babita" in the comedy series Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma. She was held accountable for the video that went viral during May 2021 for the use of caste-based slurs. In the video where she mentioned her upcoming project and the way, she wanted to look. She referred to a particular community saying- "I don't want to look like them". 

Later, she took down the video and apologised to the community and people affected by it and mentioned how she was unaware of the use of the word. In the statement issued by her, she wrote- "I have the utmost respect for every single person from every caste, creed or gender and acknowledge their immense contribution to the society or nation."

Kangana Ranaut-

Ranaut has made several controversial statements that landed her in the soup many times. However, she once targeted Bollywood actor, politician Urmila in an interview where she called her "soft porn star" twice and was not objected to by the interviewer. When she was asked about creating controversy to get the party ticket to Bhartiya Janata Party, she replied- "Even Urmila is a soft porn star. She is not known for her acting, then what is she known for? For doing soft porn right? If she could get a ticket, why should not I get a ticket?"

Sara Ali Khan-

In an interview with Barkha Dutt, Sara Ali Khan blatantly promoted colourism and the discrimination related to it through her statement. On being asked by a woman in the audience if the actor wanted to go to the beach and get tanned as the dark skin continues to make women suffer. She replied - "If you wanna be tan, just put on some bronzer, and if you wanna be fair, put on some powder." The actor equated using spray paints (to make oneself look dark) to pink nail polish.
