In many traditional families, women are often encouraged to pursue safer, more stable career paths, while high-risk ventures, especially in finance and business, are seen as male domains. But there are women who refuse to accept these age-old restrictions, proving that they can not only thrive in business but also set new standards for future generations.

On this Women's Entrepreneurship Day, we reflect on how far women have come in breaking societal norms and carving out their space in entrepreneurial industries, with one such trailblazer - Sakshi Sindwani. A woman who has not only defied the expectations placed on her but has also transformed her passion into a thriving business, inspiring countless others to follow in her footsteps.

A prominent entrepreneur and content creator, Sakshi Sindwani candidly admitted on Shaili Chopra’s The Rule Breaker show, “I was the first of my kind to have made the amount of money that my family had never seen. If I don't make money, the future generations of the Sindwani family will not be able to realise that women can do it all.”

The road was far from easy. Growing up in a Punjabi business family, she faced the typical expectation - women don’t talk about money or investment. Sakshi recounted, “A large number of women are often told, ‘Girls don't talk about money’. And so was I, honestly. Only men were supposed to do business in my family. Every woman was told, 'you do the safer job.'”

The doubt from those around her only fueled her ambition, however, Sakshi’s father played a complex role in her journey. “I honestly don't think I had a very healthy relationship with my father... he was constantly picking on my weight... or how many grades I was going to get.”

Yet, when she began earning and showcasing her capability, his perspective shifted. “When I started earning the money and when I started being independent, he really saw everything that I stand for... I could actually monetize it. And I was without any support.  I gained respect in his eyes and then I could sit with him on a table and think like him and he would see me as an equal in terms of mind.”
