A video of a woman attacking a Zomato food delivery executive went viral on social media. In the video, the woman can be seen repeatedly hitting the food delivery agent with her footwear.

The viral video was originally posted on Twitter by someone claiming that the Zomato food delivery executive was carrying his order. He said the woman took the order from the delivery executive and began assaulting him with her footwear.

The user added that the food delivery executive later came to his home “crying and terrified that he would lose his job”. He clarified that he had not taken the video and that the clip was recorded by one of the bystanders.

  • The video had no audio and the user who posted the video said the audio was required in order to understand why the woman began attacking the food delivery agent.
  • According to him, the attack could have been a result of misunderstanding, aggression, or classism.
  • The user mentioned in further tweets that he called Zomato’s customer care service after he learned about the incident.
  • Zomato advised the delivery executive to contact rider support. The delivery executive tried to follow the instructions but the customer care team did not understand Kannada.
  • The user mentioned that he took to social media and posted the video so that the delivery agent would get “justice and job security”. He added that he asked the customer representative to connect him with a superior so that he could explain the situation better.
  • Reportedly, the delivery agent told the woman that the order was another person’s and asked her for the receipt to tally. The woman did not listen to the delivery executive and began to attack him.
  • The Zomato social media account thanked the poster for sharing the video and said, “We are getting this checked.”
  • Netizens described the woman’s behaviour as disgraceful and unacceptable. Users urged Zomato to file a complaint against her on the behalf of the delivery agent.
  • One user suggested that Zomato should have a system where the delivery agents can rate the customers.
  • When a user tried to use the incident to bash female empowerment, the original poster said, “This has less to do with gender and more to do with entitlement of this particular woman.” He added that “mischievous conclusions” deflect from the nuance of the situation.
