The said ">conversation between the friends is happening after Vanshika's boyfriend, Akash broke up with her on their two-month anniversary. Vanshika, like most of us ranting about how much effort she had put in for the day and her dedication toward Akash in these two months. But things take a turn when at the end of the conversation her friend suggests that she moves on and that she might have a friend who likes Vanshika and she could set her up soon. A relieved Vanshika concludes that things are not as bad as she was thinking.

The need to look nice, get your arms shaved, get the eyebrows done and whatnot are enforced on women from a very young age. The fact that beauty needs effort and not everyone is born beautiful is reminded too often. Whereas for men, their mere presence is lauded as more than enough for all sorts of relationships. So when you ask a girl what all she had to do before going on a date, she can name you a big list whereas the guy going on the same date will be saying that he wore the same t-shirt he has been wearing that entire week.

Of course, there are exceptions but what is this obsessive need to look pretty when what all matters is how he treated you? In Vanshika's situation, she regrets doing all that because he broke her heart, he probably wouldn't even notice if she had trimmed her eyebrows or not. Why do we not tell our women to think more about taking care of themselves, do things that make them happy and not settle for less? If one feels great after shaving their arms and doing eyebrows they should do that because no matter which Akash breaks their heart, they will learn about not choosing a similar guy rather than thinking about the pain of getting her eyebrows plucked (it pains more than you think).

We can just let the women choose their vanity instead of forcing it on them? And stop telling them that the presence of a man is not everything in their life. She is definitely not a failed deal if she is not in a relationship or she doesn't have a 'line of guys' lurking around her. Vanshikha with a lot of pride tells her friend how big of a catch she is in her college but sadly Vanshikha, that might not be a real achievement.

Why Do We Relate To Vanshika?

She is not to be blamed for the mindset but for the umpteenth number of movies made on this plot where the coolest student of the college is the one who has a crazy amount of admirers around them. Belittling women who are not exactly beautiful in society's high unrealistic standards and assumed to be very studious with no life. The viral phone conversation became more relatable as we could almost visualise it happening in a 90s Bollywood rom-com which is highly problematic but almost all of us want to be them because they are lead characters and are super cool.
