One of Dr. Vikas Divyakirti's recent lectures is going viral on social media and has become a topic of controversy. Divyakirti is a founder of Delhi based Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) coaching class, his video did not go down well with Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Prachi Sadhvi. Sadhvi, and erupted controversy.

  • On November 11, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader and Hindu activist Dr. Prachi Sadhvi took to her Twitter account to share a 45 seconds video of Vikas Divyakirti teaching a batch of students about the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Lord Ram told Goddess Sita that he did not fight Ravana for her but for the respect of his clan. Further, Lord Ram said that just like ghee licked by a dog is not suitable for eating, similarly now you are not suitable for me.

  • Prach Sadhvi shared it with the caption, "Retweet If You Want . #BanDrishtiIAS" and later in the day, made a second tweet saying, "I Request To Government. #BanDrishtiIAS" after which the hashtag started trending on Twitter.
  • The Hindutva activists reportedly started shaming and thrashing the teacher for hurting the sentiments of Hindus by speaking ill of characters who are considered holy and are worshipped in Hinduism.
  • However, later in the day, a Twitter user shared the full clip of the lecture that was allegedly conducted by the teacher on Thursday and the full video depicted another side to the story.
  • In the full video, after stating the controversial dog statement, Divyakirti adds, "In one of the Sanskrit scriptures, Lord Ram is made to say these words. It is not Lord Ram who says this, it is the writer who is saying this. Author make his character speak what is there in his own heart, and slowly the character's impression is built. But its the character whose image is ruined"

  • He, later on, adds that Tulsidas Ji, the poet who wrote the holy Ramcharitramanas, omit this sentence because he was smart enough to have a visionary thought, that some day feminism will be established and the empowered women will slam him for such a statement.
  • Divyakirti also mentions few other instances where old scriptures made misogynist comments about females saying that as soon as a woman becomes independent, she becomes a ruined or deteriorated person just like heavy rains can cause flower beds to scatter and ruin.
  • He also says that he would not say anything against or in favour of a poet and instead go for a practical and unbiased approach to what the poets made their characters say. It is known that Tulsidas Ji took inspiration from several versions of the Ramayana from across India and some of these had rather controversial statements.
  • The netizens made there own opinions after looking at both the video clips. A popular opinion of teacher not insulting anyone but stating what is written in one of the versions of the Ramayana came up.
