How Laila Ali Became The Undefeated Champion Of The Boxing World

Known by various names such as Pretty Baby, Madame Butterfly, etc., Laila Ali is an American Boxer, now retired, and also a Television personality in the States. She has her own record of standing Undefeated throughout her boxing career.

Laila Amaria Ali was born on December 3, 1977, in Florida, She is the daughter of world-known boxer Muhammad Ali, against whom Laila has won all matches. Before stepping into the ring, she owned a nail salon. 

Ali's Boxing Career

Ali stepped into the ring when she was 18 years old, motivated by Christy Martin's fight. The fact that Ali's ring debut happened the night before what was ultimately determined to be an exhibition and was meant to be the first male-female professional match ever approved by a US state boxing commission added to the attention around the fight.

On August 23, 2003, Ali fought her original inspiration, Christy Martin, beating Martin by a knockout in four rounds., followed by knocking out Nikki Eplion in 2004, and retaining her world title.

Laila's father, Muhammad Ali, himself a boxer, was not in favour of her daughter continuing in this field due to religious beliefs. In an interview, she said, "My father, first of all, did not believe that women should be boxing. My father was Muslim, I'm not. He was a little bit of a male chauvinist in a way."

Ali remained undefeated, even against her father; in 2001, she captured nine wins consecutively, which led to fans calling to see her square off in the ring with Freeda Foreman. In the sport, Ali is considered by many to be one of the best female professional boxers of all time.
