Who is Delia Owens
Bestselling author Delia Owens just saw through the release of a feature film based on her book last week. However, the feat might be shadowed by the fact that Owens is wanted by Zambian Police for questioning in a three-decade-old shooting case. It is reported that Owens and her ex-husband Mark Owens could have played a part in covering up a murder and may have committed other crimes as well during their time in Zambia.

United States-based author and conservationist Delia Owens is popularly known for her fiction novel Where the Crawdads Sing, which became the New York Times Fiction Best Sellers for the years 2019 and 2020. The book was adapted into a movie by the same name and released in the US on July 13. The film is produced by Reese Witherspoon and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as the protagonist and its title song has been sung by Taylor Swift.

The allegations of being involved in a murder against Delia Owens seem to have helped in the promotion of the film. According to reports, Delia Owens and her former husband Mark Owens were based in the conservation centre of North Luangwa National Park in Zambia during the mid-90s where the murder took place.

As per the investigation conducted by the Zambian Police, the author's son Christopher Owens had shot an alleged poacher when he came back to his campsite during an ambush. The incident was actually caught on video that was part of a news program. The footage reveals the victim falling on the ground after the first shot. However, three more shots are then fired again, but it is not revealed who pulled the trigger. ABC cameraman Chris Everson, who had filmed the video had later confirmed that it was Christopher Owens who had fired the shots.

In addition to this, the killing was not even reported to the Zambian officials by the ABC crew whose subjects were actually Delia and Mark Owens for an episode of a news-based show called Turning Point. The Atlantic reported that the case remains open still and the Owens, along with their son, are wanted for interrogation for the murder as well as other suspected crimes.

Who is Delia Owens?

Born in southern Georgia, Delia Owens is an author, zoologist and conservationist. She has co-authored three non-fiction books based on her experience as a wildlife scientist in Africa. Where the Crawdads Sing was her debut fiction novel which featured on the New York Best Seller list for 32 non-consecutive weeks. She is also the co-founder of Owens Foundation for Wildlife Conservation in Georgia and has also participated in various conservation efforts over the years for various animals including the grizzly bear throughout the US.
