An elderly woman from Florida, USA, was arrested for attempting to kill her husband over a postcard he received from a woman he dated 60 years ago. According to The Independent, police received a call from a man who stated that Miami resident Bertha Yalter, his wife, had almost killed him. When the cops arrived on the scene, they reportedly found the man in an "extremely fragile" state with "several serious bruises and open lacerations...as well as open bite marks that were bleeding."

The man told the North Miami Beach Police Department that the attack happened after he received a postcard from a woman he dated before marrying Bertha Yalter in the 1960s. According to US media, he said that the postcard greatly angered the 71-year-old, who tried to smother him with a pillow and assault him.

Bertha Yalter was caught assaulting her husband on his phone camera. Prosecutors also stated that she had admitted to depriving her husband of his cell phone at some point. During investigations, Yalter admitted to committing that attack despite her lawyers claiming that the police overcharged this case.

Bertha Yalter has been charged with three counts -- attempted murder in the second degree, aggravated battery against an elderly person, and tampering with a witness or victim. The 71-year-old was also ordered to have no contact with her husband. Her attorneys called the ruling "absurd." They said, "I am very confident that we're going to get this case resolved quickly and favourably."

"This is a couple who has been married for 51 years. The police overcharged this case in the extreme. Our client's husband said he was perfectly fine. That he regrets the argument. And that he regrets what happened," Yalter's attorney stated, adding that her husband was taken to the hospital only because he insisted on going.

However, prosecutors noted that Yalter had confessed to the crime. The State's attorney added, "I think she also admitted to urinating on him. So, I think if you look at the totality of the circumstances, this appears to be more than a domestic battery by strangulation."
