As reported by the New York Post, Ina Thea Kenoyer, aged 47, faces charges for the murder of 51-year-old Steven Edward Riley Jr., which occurred on September 5.

According to police records, witnesses informed investigators that Riley fell ill during a meeting with his attorney on September 3 to receive a substantial inheritance. However, Kenoyer did not contact 911 until the following day when paramedics arrived and discovered Riley in an unresponsive state at his residence in Minot.

He passed away in the hospital the day after the incident.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he was fatally poisoned by consuming antifreeze, a substance that the police claim Kenoyer administered to him.

In the days preceding her arrest, the accused murderer made a series of bewildering Facebook posts in which she vehemently asserted her innocence, bizarrely contending that Riley had taken his own life.

According to the Police, the heinous act was allegedly motivated by financial gain.

Minot Police Department's Investigations Commander, Capt. Dale Plessas described the case as exceptionally intricate.

The accused, Kenoyer, had informed investigators that her intention was to share Riley's substantial inheritance, which she estimated at approximately $30 million, with his son, as outlined in the records.

She asserted her claim to the fortune based on her status as Riley's common-law wife, even though North Dakota does not legally recognise such relationships.

Furthermore, it was discovered that Riley had expressed his intention to end the romantic relationship shortly after acquiring significant wealth. This led investigators to hypothesize that she poisoned him in a bid to secure the inheritance.

Kenoyer is confronted with a first-degree felony murder charge, which is the most serious murder charge in North Dakota.

She is currently in custody without the option of posting bail at the Ward County Detention Center, as indicated in court documents. Moreover, she is acting as her own legal representative.

Son Mourns Riley's Death

Riley's grieving son in a Facebook post lamented, "May my dad rest in peace... I had a hunch it was her, considering how everything unfolded, but I deeply regret not arranging to meet him earlier."

"I hope she faces the appropriate  consequences for taking you away from this world."

This is not the first incident involving domestic poisonings by vindictive partners across the country, all in the pursuit of benefiting from their victims' wealth.
