What extreme adoption-related initiative have you heard of? Many people might visit a shelter or adopt a stray. However, an American family went above and beyond by travelling a long way to bring a dog with a facial deformity into their home.
Seattle native Sherry Lankston and her two sons decided to travel to San Diego in hopes of adopting a husky with a facial anomaly that appears to give him a unique and lovable lopsided beaming smile.
According to CBS 8, the family made the difficult choice to travel 2,600 miles (4184 kilometres) to adopt this special dog after seeing a social media post from Joy Ollinger, a humane officer with the San Diego County Department of Animal Services.

When their family viewed Ollinger's post, the dog Harvey the husky quickly drew their attention. Lankston said, "I had to see him as soon as I saw that silly smile. We haven't been able to visit our friends and favourite spots in San Diego in a few years, so why not? Roadtrip. " Lankston was willing to take the chance even though she was aware that Harvey might have been adopted before she and her family arrived in San Diego.

The family of Sherry Lankston already had one dog and they now own two. She commented on Facebook about the relationship between the two, saying that "She's not terribly amused, but at least tolerant, of the new little brother. This was immediately after a pee stop for goodies and water. I'm letting her ride in front of me so they can spread out."
