Smartwatch Saves Woman's Life

A fight broke out between the couple over money on Sunday afternoon, the day the incident took place. Reportedly, Chae punched and duct-taped Young and kidnapped her and drove her into the forest.

The 53-year-old accused dug a hole, stabbed his wife, and then placed her in the hole. One of the court documents read, “Chae told her she was going to die… After being put in the ground she could hear her husband walking around the hole and dirt being put on top of her.”

Using her smartphone, Young was able to contact the police and an emergency notification was sent to her 20-year-old daughter. Her husband later smashed her smartwatch with a hammer and was driven to another location.

Young regained consciousness after she was placed in a shallow grave and opened the duct tape and dug herself out of the hole. She hid in a shed after running for 30 minutes after she escaped. Young told the authorities about the incident and mentioned that she struggled to breathe inside of the shallow grave. She added that she had to repeatedly remove the dirt from entering her mouth.

According to a court filing, Young had duct tape still wrapped around her neck, face, and ankles when the police found her.
