Mother Honours Late Daughter
A mother decided to honour her daughter’s memory by cherishing a bright memento that serves as a reminder of her lively daughter, Evan, who passed away at the age of three due to mitochondrial disease. Evan had a spunky personality and adored sporting sunglasses. Following her tragic death, the mother began sporting a ring designed after Evan's favourite pair of sunglasses.

During an interview with Today.com, freelance writer Lindzi Scharf shared that her daughter spent much of her life in and out of the hospital. For Scharf, clothing serves as a form of protection as well as a way of self-expression.

To make the best of the situation, Scharf and her daughter turned getting dressed up into a delightful activity. Despite frequently wearing hospital gowns, the two would still dress up in anticipation of their weekly trips to the farmer's market.

Evan Frances, also known as "Miss Evan" affectionately by her family, was diagnosed with KARS, an uncommon mitochondrial ailment. Despite being born deaf and unable to speak, her hearing was significantly improved with the help of cochlear implants in both ears. This enabled her to appreciate music and communicate with her loved ones.

Although she passed away at the young age of three and a half, Evan left her parents, Michael Buckner and Lindzi Scharf with precious life lessons.

Scharf and Buckner are parents now to a son named Reid, who is 15 months old. Reid's name was chosen to honour Scharf's sister and to represent Evan's fondness for reading. Sadly, Evan passed away a few months prior to her fourth birthday on April 28, 2022, when Reid was only four months old.
