How Nimaya is bringing domestic dignity to women

Kshamta Mantri is working with women to make them self-reliant and financially independent. And that's not an easy effort. It takes a lot of convincing of slum dwelling families to get their mothers and wives to join a learning centre where they also earn. Mantri is heading the Nimaya Foundation, founded by Ayesha Thapar and Samyak Chakravarty, which enables women from lower income groups to start their own small enterprises to achieve economic independence and domestic dignity. The first group of 8 women entrepreneurs is working on building a line of hemp made wearable’s designed by designer Kalyani Desai operating from Shree Ganesh Vidya Mandir, a Marathi medium primary school located in Dharavi. We catch with Mantri at Nimaya to know her story.
