In the viral video, the actor was seen joking with her friends during bidaai. While she said her goodbyes to her friend, she added that she is happy about getting married and jokingly told her friends to be jealous of her.

During Hindu weddings, bidaai is an event where the girl leaves her parents house after marriage. It symbolises that "the girl of the house" is now going to another house as a daughter-in-law. The traditions during this ceremony may vary from region to region, but the sentiment behind it remains the same.

Brides are expected to be sad during this ceremony, having to leave their parents' home and start a new life.  A horrifying image furthered by popular culture in our country. Bollywood movies showed parents mouthing dialogues like, "Now you are someone else's." As if the woman leaving the house is a piece of property being handed over by one man to another.

No wonder women used to cry during bidaai, because of the idea of being thrown out of the family, in which they grew up and might be comfortable with, is a sad thought.

But of late these notions and ideas are eroding. Although the system of bidaai still stays in place, the idea that a bride needs to have a leaking mascara because of that doesn't have many takers in the younger generation.

The ability to choose their life partners, not being treated like an object but more like a human, no economic transition, etc help brides feel more secure about getting married. Also, many women today do not believe that getting married into another family sever or weaken their ties with the one in which they took birth.

Although marriage is a social and legal institution, the emotions of the people involved need not be grounded by what society has preapproved, especially for the bride. Today's bride will choose their emotions. They will laugh out loud and joke around and it is okay if they do not choose to cry during her bidaai. It does not mean that she does not love her parents or sibling etc.
