Who is Haris? Well-known novelist Khaled Hosseini took to Twitter to reveal that his daughter Haris came out as transgender. Khaled Hosseini is the author of critically-acclaimed books like The Kite Runner and  A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Khaled Hosseini is a renowned author of Afghanistan origin. He is half Pashtun and part Tajik. He currently resides in California with his family, his wife Roya, and daughters Haris and Farah. He has been awarded many accolades and awards including the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement in 2008.

 'Never Been Prouder' Says Khaled Hosseini On his Daughter's Coming Out

Khaled Hosseini is best known for highlighting the problems faced by his people in war-torn Afghanistan in his novels. He gives a vulnerable and honest revelation of what it was like to grow up in a conflict region. On July 12, the author took to Twitter, sharing about his daughter, lauding her for her courage and bravery. He also shared that Haris serves as an inspiration to the entire Hosseini family for her strength.

In a wholesome tweet, Khaled Hosseini wrote- "Yesterday, my daughter Haris came out as transgender. I’ve never been prouder of her. She has taught our family so much about bravery and truth. I know this process was painful for her. She is sober of the cruelty trans people are subjected to. But she is strong and undaunted."

Sharing two pictures of Haris, he added, "I love my daughter. She is beautiful, wise, and brilliant. I will be by her side every step of the way. Our family stands behind her." With his tweet, Khaled Hosseini showed how parents should be supportive of their children who do not identify with the heteronormativity and make a safe and welcoming space for them. The tweet has now received over 10.8K likes and 700+ retweets.

The internet came in support of the same, respecting Haris' decision to come out and praising Khaled Hosseini for being so supportive. One user wrote- "I remember reading your books in high school and loved how nuanced a man wrote about women in A Thousand Splendid Suns. I said this man truly honors and cares about women and children. You obviously do and your daughter is so lucky to have you. God Bless you and your family."
