For long, women have been kept away from certain sectors that are dominated by men. However, as times are changing, women are standing up for themselves and taking up all kinds of roles. Politics especially has a number of strong and bold female representatives who speak their minds freely and fearlessly. Maharashtra Bhartiya Janta Party leader Chandrakant Patil cannot hide his patriarchal mindset when he asked Member of Parliament from Nationalist Congress Party Supriya Sule to 'go home and cook' during heated debate on OBC reservation. When his comment was being criticised highly by everyone, Patil released a statement not to apologise but to clarify that his words were interpreted in a different sense.

Sanjay Nirupam On Smriti Irani

Back in December 2012, Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam and BJP MP Smriti Irani attended a TV debate together where they both got into an heated argument with each other when Nirupam was seen saying, "It's only four days of your entry into politics and you have become a political analyst. Aap toh TV pe thumke lagati thi, aaj chunavi vishleshak ban gayi".

Raj Thackeray To Jaya Bachchan

In 2008, while addressing a group of Marathi public, Jaya Bachchan asked the audience to excuse her as she will speak in Hindi instead of Marathi as she is from Uttar Pradesh after which Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray claimed that it was an insult to the Maharashtrians and said, "Guddi buddhi zhali pan akal aali nahi (Guddi got old but she did not gain wisdom)".

Narendra Modi On Sheikh Hasina

In 2015, while congratulating Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, the Indian Prime Minister said that he was impressed how Hasina, despite being a woman, has zero tolerance towards violence. His statement irked many as he made a sexist comment on the PM and women in general.

In 2013, Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Digvijaya Singh made a derogatory comment on one of her own party members. Meenakshi Natarajan, a prominent Congress leader was present at a gathering where Digvijaya took a moment to compliment her for her talent in politics only to call her 'sau tunch maal' at the end.

Gopal Shetty On Urmila Matondkar

When Urmila Mantondkar joined Congress party in 2019, BJP leader Gopal Shetty said that her inclusion in the party was merely based on her looks and her celebrity status and she had nothing to do with politics . He said, "She is a bholi bhali ladki who is zero in politics."

Back in 2019, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya took a jab at Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a rather sexist way, calling her a 'chocolatey face' who contested for elections because the party lacked strong political faces. He said, "A Congress leader demands that Kareena Kapoor should be fielded from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat. Sometimes others talk about fielding Salman Khan from Indore. Likewise, Priyanka (Vadra) was also brought into active politics"
