Serena Williams To Play US Open And Top Seed Open In August

Williams is already prepping to enter the next scheduled Grand Slam tournament, the US Open, which is slated to begin in New York on August 31.

While various big sporting events are either cancelled and/or postponed, celebrated tennis players including, Serena Williams are planning on returning to the court in August. Williams, who will play in the court after a long break, as she was self-isolating due to the ongoing pandemic, has already confirmed that she is eager to come back to the tennis court.

Next month, she is all set to make a comeback at a WTA tournament in Kentucky, as per reports. The 23 Grand Slam winner was last seen helping Team USA defeat Latvia in Fed Cup play in Everett, Washington in February.

At the Kentucky event or the Top Seed Open, Williams and Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion, will lead the games as top players from August 10 to August 16, The Hindu reported. Before that, the clay-court Palermo Open in Italy will also make start on August 3, which marks the return of the WTA tour. She has also started prepping for the upcoming US Open, which will take off later in the same month.

Williams is now excited to get back to work as soon as possible. Talking to the media, she said she plans to enter the next scheduled Grand Slam tournament and "cannot wait to return to New York and play the U.S. Open 2020," slated on August 31, NewsBytes reported.

In January 2020, Williams made headlines with her first singles title win when she beat fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-4 in the final at the ASB Classic. In the Fed Cup, she beat Jelena Ostapenko 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) and lost to Anastasija Sevastova 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-7 (4-7).

Last month, she said she is looking forward to competing in the US Open. "I really cannot wait to return in New York and play the US Open 2020. I feel like the USTA is going to do a really good job of ensuring everything is amazing and everything is perfect and everyone is safe," she expressed.

I am looking forward to joining her on the doubles court and I just don’t care whom I play against. Who’s across the net, as long as there’s a net and there’s a match. Right?”
