A Miss Universe contestant named Thuzar Wint Lwin, representing Myanmar, used the pageant stage to speak out against the military junta.

Iris Mittenaere, a dental surgery student from France, has been crowned Miss Universe 2017. The event, which was hosted in Manila, Philippines, on Sunday had Haiti’s Raquel Pelissier placed as the first runner-up while Colombia’s Andrea Tovar finished as the second runner-up.

Twenty three years after Sushmita Sen won the Miss Universe pagaent in Manila, she will be on the judge’s panel to select the next Miss Universe.
