Accident and Acid Attack Survivors To Get Free Treatment In Delhi

Delhi government has chalked out guidelines that help survivors of road accidents, acid attacks and thermal burn injuries get cashless treatment of medico-legal cases. As per the guidelines, survivors will have the facility to get medical checkup done free of cost. The caveat is, Arvind Kejriwal-led govt announced, this will be applicable only to the incidents taking place in the capital. the  on Saturday.

Anyone under the category could avail the facility in registered nursing homes/private hospitals in Delhi. The medical facilities will treat the survivors for free and will be reimbursed through 'Delhi Arogya Kosh', the guidelines said.

The AAP government assured that the free treatment would be "mandatory" for hospitals to offer. This also covers all kinds of medical facilities in any hospitals.

"There will be cashless treatment of medico-legal survivors of road accidents, acid attacks and thermal burn injuries, in case of incidents that have occurred within city limits. The treatment will be held in registered nursing homes or private hospitals in the city," the guidelines stated.

The guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Health minister Satyendra Jain announced that Delhi govt will bear the cost of treatment in such cases. The survivor will be relieved from the hassle of carrying any document for verification and eligibility.

To get the treatment, one has to only keep these factors in mind —

  • The incident has happened in Delhi
  • And, within the jurisdiction of Delhi Police
  • No nursing home or private hospital registered under Delhi Nursing Homes Registration Act 1953 can refuse treatment
  • Patients are entitled to all facilities offered to an indoor patient under the lowest economy category in that institute
  • It will be free and in case of refusal or other violation, action will be taken against the facility

''The keeper of the nursing home/private hospital will give the details of the victim preferably within six hours of his/her arrival on email or SMS the requisite details on mobile numbers, name of the nursing home and address, casualty record number and Emergency Registration among other details,'' the guidelines added.
