Social media is so far gone into the deep-end of likes and humour and memes that a person’s real identity no longer matters as long as s/he is content fodder.
A man can give his political opinions and no one gets uncomfortable, he doesn’t face rape threats, because he is a man.Â
Is it too foolish of me to expect the internet to be a place for dissent and not rape and death threats. The internet is a vicious place, a free-for-all forum, where the insidious violence that can often physically follow women home.
Why is a joke being given so much attention over an open rape threat? Why are we enjoying the abusive culture that men like Shubham Mishra and Hindustani Bhau are enabling, by making memes out of them?
