Belarusian tennis legend Aryna Sabalenka faced defeat in the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Championships. "Losing sucks," she said in a post-match press conference. "You always feel like you want to die, you don’t want to exist anymore, and this is the end of your life." On Instagram, she wrote a heartfelt message. "Thank you @wimbledon for a special two weeks filled with great atmosphere and great opponents. I’m grateful I was able to compete this year, and I will see you next year."
The post had supportive comments from thousands of her fans, reminding her of the champion she remains. Influencer and author Jay Shetty wrote, "You played with heart and passion." A fan from Brazil added, "You tried until the end, we saw it. Thank you for your games, now let's move on to the hard court season."
However, one comment stood out the most. Sabalenka's beau, Georgios Frangulis, was quick to offer comfort from the heartbreak. “Te amo,” he commented, a Spanish expression meaning “I love you.” He has been seen at several of her matches, watching with pride and admiration, and cheering from the stands.
Who is Georgios Frangulis?
Georgios Frangulis is a businessman. He is the co-founder and CEO of Oakberry, a superfoods brand that is especially known for its açaí smoothie bowls. He was born in São Paulo on September 9, 1988. His family is originally from Thessaloniki, Greece.
Frangulis studied law at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo, but chose to pursue entrepreneurship. After graduating, he moved to the US, where he launched his brand in 2016.
Frangulis told Forbes Brazil that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in August 2016. Months later, he got married to his then-girlfriend, but later got divorced. Frangulis is also a motorsports enthusiast and has competed in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge races.
Sabalenka & Frangulis relationship
Aryna Sabalenka told tennis.com about the start of her relationship with Frangulis. She shared that his brand's products used to be available at many tournaments in the US. "I always would have it after the match because it's quite healthy, tasty, and so refreshing if it's hot [outside]." This then turned into a sponsorship deal.
"We just contact each other. I met the owner of the brand. At that point, we were just signing the documents. Later on, we became a couple," Sabalenka revealed. She even launched her "signature" açaí bowl with the brand in August 2024. Sabalenka and Frangulis went public with their relationship in the spring of 2024 with a social media post.
Sabalenka said in some interviews that Frangulis helped her through moments of grief. Her ex-boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov, a former NHL player, allegedly died by suicide in March 2024. Although he and Sabalenka were not together at the time, his demise deeply impacted her. However, she found strength and love again in Frangulis.
“There was a really tough period where I was really happy to have him by my side, always cheering me up, always making sure that we were doing some fun stuff,” Sabalenka told People in 2024. Frangulis' Instagram account is peppered with adorable photographs of Sabalenka. "He has become a content king," the Belarusian once joked.
Sabalenka describes him as her biggest supporter. "I make sure I kind of forget about tennis and focus on the good things and enjoy my life. Even when things are going wrong in my career. So yeah, he was my biggest support and yeah, really happy to have him by my side," she told People.
