  1. The origins of carved pumpkins are contained in an ancient Irish myth about 'Stingy Jack'.   2. Pumpkins at Halloween are called 'Jack O'Lanterns' in English, after Stingy Jack. Pumpkin lanterns were first mentioned in English texts in 1837 and began to be used in 1866. The pumpkins are lit with candles, they are easy to hollow out and cut patterns into.
  3. Halloween is synonymous with the pumpkin, and on "all hallow's eve," pumpkins will light up the streets across the nation. They may be a little frightening, but they also make excellent food. In addition to spooky face paint, gloomy decorations, and frightful costumes, pumpkins have come to represent Halloween all around the world.
  4.  Switzerland is famous for the cultivation of pumpkins, they are appropriate given the time of year that Halloween falls. As the pumpkin represents harvests and crops, as well as rebirth and fertility in symbolism.
