Who Was Yubei Security Guard Influencer? Chinese Online Star Allegedly Killed By Fan

The woman behind the popular Yubei security guard influencer account on Chinese social media website Douyin was reportedly killed by a male fan earlier this month. According to reports, the accused was a big admirer of the influencer and the duo connected digitally. The friendship they developed is said to have gone downhill, prompting the man to allegedly end her life.

Authorities have arrested the man suspected to be behind the murder. The influencer is survived by her husband and two children.

Reports suggest the man sent the influencer gifts worth 1,00,000 yuan (over Rs 11,50,000) during one of her social media livestreams. However, when relations between them turned unpleasant, the man demanded she return the amount he gifted to her and she refused. Fans from China are allgeging it might be a case of spurned love. 

The two reportedly even met up once in early November. The influencer's husband claimed before the media he was unaware of his wife meeting her alleged fan.

Known only as the Yubei security guard influencer, the woman who died was aged 33. As per Today, she had amassed a wide following of over 3,00,000 followers on Douyin within a short span of one year. Douyin is China's version of content creation and video-sharing app TikTok.

Her online persona was drawn from reality since, besides being an influencer, she was employed at a driving school as a security guard. Her most popular videos show her dancing for the camera in her security guard uniform pairing a blue shirt and black skirt.

Yubei, as mentioned in her social media profiles, is a district in China's Chongqing area. Local reports claim the late influencer's family has, at present, made no demands other than that their daughter's killer be brought to justice.
