The tragic death of Eman Sami Maghdid has prompted a wave of outrage on social media, from her followers as well as from netizens pointing to the regressiveness practises like honour killing.
According to reports, popular Iraqi content creator and TikTok star Eman Sami Maghdid was allegedly shot dead in an alleged honour killing.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 6, 2022, on Sunday, when a prominent internet celebrity, who was just 20 years old at the time, was allegedly slain by her own brother, who was claimed to be 17 years old at the time. The brother her more than 9 times in broad daylight. The adolescent was apprehended by law enforcement. The sibling is a member of Iraq's Islamic community.
The accused allegedly shot Maghdid multiple times on a road near the Erbil International Airport in Iraq's Kurdistan region during the weekend. Initially, the perpetrators in Maghdid's death were merely referred to as "unnamed assailants." Metro, on the other hand, alleges that her brother was the one who shot her. An uncle of the late influencer was also apprehended by cops.

Who is Eman Sami Maghdid?
Maghdid, often known as Mari or Maria, was a well-known figure on the social media platform. She was also a Tiktoker, with 60.2 thousand followers on the app.
According to local media reports, her social media photos and videos went against the community's ideals in Iraq's traditional society. According to sources, she used to share photos of herself smoking cigarettes, videos in which she addressed herself aloud, and shots of herself wearing crop tops, all of which are thought inappropriate and detested by the majority of Kurdish society.
Maghdid was a strong and ardent feminist and was praised for her efforts by her followers. In addition to questioning social conventions of attire, reports also claim that Maghdid allegedly disobeyed Islamic religious regulations by wearing a crucifix around her neck. Her family, on the other hand, believes she never converted and merely liked to wear the jewellery.
Maghdid's brother allegedly confessed to her murder in a radio programme on March 8 this month. He went on the run for a short while before being arrested by authorities. According to reports, police have refused to release any additional details on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
