Twitter Tributes To Vivienne Westwood

Canadian musician Bryan Adams tweeted today saying, "RIP @viviennewestwood V sad to hear of Vivienne’s passing, we made this photo together in 2008. She was a true original." along with a photo of the legend. Fashion historian Dr Kate Strasdin shared her tribute to Westwood on Twitter, "The loss of a fashion legend in #VivienneWestwood. I often show students footage of her talking about the importance of history & cultural studies to design thinking, she embraced it all. This is a marvel, one long length of silk. What a legacy. Propaganda gown, 2005@metmuseum" as she shared a photo of the gown.

Official account for global fashion weeks tweeted their tribute, "We are saddened to share that the legendary Dame #VivienneWestwood has died at age 81. The British designer and activist was a pioneer of the punk fashion movement of the 1970s and made a lasting mark on fashion." American actor Kerry Washington tweeted, "I always felt like a goddess when wearing art designed by the goddess that is #VivienneWestwood. Heaven just became a bit more snatched and fabulous. Rest in Peace" Journalist and socialite Derek Blasberg wrote on Twitter, "Vivienne Westwood, the ultimate Punk, has left the club. She died today, at age 81. She will be remembered in style textbooks for ushering in London's counterculture scene to high fashion, but I think she'd want to be remembered most for her advocacy, specifically global warming."

Other celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis, Victoria Beckham, Amelia Grey Hamlin, Karen Elson and many others remembered the fashion icon on Instagram. Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to Westwood as she wrote, "In 1983 I dated Adam Ant for about a year during his tax exile. He once went to London and World's End and brought me back a massive box of clothing from @viviennewestwood Vivienne Westwood. I was raised in a very conservative household, my stepfather was a Marine and my mother, a good girl and this box of clothes that looked like a pirate would wear them delighted and terrified me. It was avant-garde and punk and dangerous and rebellious, not one of those words that you would apply to me and yet I gamely tried to wear them. Years later, my hairdresser, @seanjameshair re-introduced me to the love of Westwood and I've been able to watch her magic through him for all of these years. Boy, do I wish I had those clothes today. A true icon. A talented dame."
