The Little Mermaid Teaser Out, Halle Bailey Will Star As Ariel

Disney unveiled first look of the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey at the D23 Expo.

The upcoming film is all set to hit theatres on May 26. Halle Bailey said that today, for the first time, she has seen footage of the film. "I’m sure all of you in here can relate to Ariel and how special she is to all of us,” stated Bailey at the event.

Rob Marshall has directed The Little Mermaid. At the event, Marshall spoke about special connection with film and how it was Fate. "In 1989, I don’t know if you remember the excitement to hear a musical again. It was sort of dead musicals were gone. Even though it was animated, we could hear people singing again and again. When Disney asked me to do this, it felt like this incredible moment. It felt like fate", added Marshall. 

The Little Mermaid Teaser

 The Little Mermaid is adapted from Disney’s 1989 animated classic, which is based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The story revolves around the mermaid princess Ariel, who makes a Faustian bargain with the sea witch Ursala. The protogonist asks witch to make her human to win the love of a prince. The Little Mermaid teaser shows glimpses of Halle Bailey in mermaid look, swirling in the water, with beautiful musical notes synching with water.

Clements and John Musker wrote and directed the original film. The film became an instant classic hit, crossing over USD 211M worldwide and winning Academy Awards for Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song. It also has two Golden Globes, a Grammy and other accolades, as per a report. The Little Mermaid teaser is interesting and all watery.

The film is scripted by David Magee and Jane Goldman. Halle Bailey will star as Ariel, with Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric and Javier Bardem as King Triton.

The development of the live-action The Little Mermaid started in 2016. The musical fantasy movie will feature songs created for the original film, as well as new ones penned by composer Alan Menken, with lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
