We all have been indirectly told to hate our bodies and yet some of us work hard to not fall for that. Building confidence and not depending on the scoreboard displayed at the weighing scale can be a difficult journey. It does not help if someone simply sets aside everything about us and goes straight to how we look, fat or skinny.

Sushmita Sen On Body Shaming:

Actor Sushmita Sen in one of her interviews was heard talking about body shaming and how she has never liked it. Sen said, "Body shaming is not a cool concept. I have never liked it. It's important to recognise that you are going to have dips. You are never going to be consistently perfect. Let me also tell you that there are people in this world who have genetic issues and people who have health conditions. So to judge people is easy but to let them enjoy the moment is difficult because we are in the limelight and we are people who are judged every day. How did it feel ? Not nice. It didn't feel nice at all." Watch the video here.

What the actor said after can be difficult to relate with. Sen said that being body shamed made her recognise that she is a strong woman and her strength cannot be seen under the weight she had gained. So the actor started to lose weight again.

That is the choice Sen made after being subjected to all the judgements in the public forum. Her journey is different from the most individuals. Sushmita Sen earns a living out of being presentable on the screen. The meaning of presentable is obviously the conventionally liked personality or physique.

The actor also praised young Bollywood actors who have decided to focus on fitness rather than being skinny.

Being shamed for the way people look can severe impact. Most people who already struggle from body image do not listen to a bunch of negative comments on their body and start working on making it 'look' better. Self-confidence takes a hit and people start to hate bodies even more. Can we not be compassionate and see people for what they are? Their ideas, talents, personality and million other things should be significant rather than their weighing scale scoreboard.
