Shabana Azmi scammed: Veteran actor Shabhana Azmi took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal that she has been conned in an online payment scam. The actor wrote that she had made payments upfront to an online liquor delivery website, but her order didn't arrive and her calls were not being picked up now.

The 70-year-old actor will soon be seen in director Faraz Ansari's film Sheer Qorma, which features actors Swara Bhasker and Divya Dutta in the lead.

Here are 10 things we know about the allegations put forth by Shabana Azmi: 

  1. Shabana Azmi alleged in a tweet that she had ordered alcohol from a liquor delivery app called Living Liquidz in Mumbai on Thursday, June 24. 
  2.  The actor claimed in her tweet that she was “cheated by them” even when she paid upfront. Additionally, the company in question stopped picking up her calls entirely.
  3.  The actor went on to share payment details of the order as a proof. 
  4. Azmi hasn't revealed whether or not she has filed a complaint against the scamsters who duped her.
  5. However, several people have now come forward to defend the liqour delivery service, insisting that Azmi was duped in its name by scamsters.
  6. Andheri Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizen’s Association, a resident’s organization in Mumbai, responded to Azmi’s tweet stating that the numbers she mentioned are fake and advised her to immediately register a police complaint so as to raise awareness about the issue.
  7.  Netizens came ahead to report cases about similar incidents they encountered. A user replied to Azmi's tweet saying that he knew three cases of cheating by the same number, out of which one case involved the loss of Rs. 42,000.
  8.  Many users pointed out the the service she had mentioned was known to take cash or card payment on delivery of the order, rather than taking online payment beforehand.
  9. Living liquidz has one of the largest selections of alcohol-based drinks online and caters to a huge audience all across Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Palghar. The company also enable online delivery across these areas. 
  10. As of now, there is no response from any officials from the accused company in question. 

Rise Of Online Payment Frauds Involving Liquor Home Delivery

A report by The Indian Express stated that the police was met with several such fraud cases owing to the spike in demand for alcohol during lockdown restrictions and in the period after it was lifted. Police said that online fraudsters tried to tap and stalk potential buyers through WhatsApp messages. Maharashtra government allowed home delivery of liquor in May last year. Earlier this month, the step was replicated by Delhi NCR.
