Sam Bahadur cast: Director of critically acclaimed movies Talvar, Raazi and Chhapaak, Meghna Gulzar is all set to direct a biographical drama on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Titled Sam Bhadur, the film will feature actor Vicky Kaushal in lead. On December 13, two more members of the cast for the film were introduced on social media.
Previously seen together in Aamir Khan’s 2016 film Dangal, Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh will reunite for a film after a period of five years with this project, although it is not clear if the two will have any scenes together since their parts seem to focus on contrasting aspects of Field Marshal Manekshaw’s life.
Sanya Malhotra, who will be playing the part of Manekshaw’s wife, Silloo,n thanked Gulzar for providing her with the opportunity of playing this role. “Behind every great man is a woman and Silloo Manekshaw was that support and strength to Sam Bahadur. I’m honoured to essay this role and bring to light her integral part and influence in this war hero’s life,” Malhotra said on being cast in this role.

Fatima Sana Shaikh, on the other hand, will be essaying the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the movie. Taking to Instagram to share the news about her casting with her followers, Shaikh wrote in her post, “A woman who defines courage, power and dignity! It’s with great pride that I am joining the team of #Samबहादुर to depict the role of India’s first female Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi!”
The announcement on Shaikh and Malhotra’s casting was made on director Meghna Gulzar’s birthday. “50 years ago, this week, India triumphed in the historic 1971 war. Another reason it is also special for us is that we welcome @sanyamalhotra_ as Silloo Manekshaw and @fatimasanashaikh as Smt. Indira Gandhi to our #Samबहादुर family!
Eager to experience this very special journey!” she wrote sharing the photograph of Sam Bahadur‘s cast on Instagram.
While the film’s lead Vicky Kaushal was seen in Shoojit Sircar’s Sardar Udham, Malhotra had two releases in 2021- Pagglait and Meenakshi Sundareshwar. Shaikh was a part of two anthologies in 2021- Ludo and Ajeeb Daastaans. Coincidently, all the projects of Kaushal, Shaikh and Malhotra had a direct-digital release in 2021.
