Bollywood films have made a solid return to the big screens with several films releasing in theatres lately post a long setback owing to the pandemic. One such film which suffered a release setback was Ajay Devgn's Maidaan. The film, which was going to release earlier this year, will now release in theatres in 2023.
Maidaan is a sports drama film that is a dedication to Indian football, and the national sports spirit in the country. The film explores the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, a football player and coach. It highlights the golden period of Indian football, from the time when the country won several championships internationally under Syed Abdul Rahim's guidance.

Maidaan release
Producer Boney Kapoor had to keep the film on hold in the year 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic that completely stopped huge entertainment projects as well across the world. After the shoot commenced in 2021, Cyclone Tauktae caused massive destruction on the sets of the film, as the set was created in a stadium on the outskirts of Mumbai. The film's scheduled release on June 3, 2022, further got postponed owing to multiple factors and, now, after a long wait, and multiple constructions of the set, Maidaan will hit the theatres on February 17, 2023.
On Friday, Devgn received a national award for the film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior at the 68th National Film Awards held in New Delhi. Actor Kajol expressed her happiness on social media by writing a sweet note for her husband's third national award win: "Bringing home two National Awards and looking good is difficult!!"
