Not Just Cowboys, These Strong-Minded Women On "Yellowstone" Run The Show

Over four seasons, Yellowstone has cemented its position as one of the most engaging dramas being aired currently. But what makes viewers return to this series season after season? Perhaps it is the setting of the show on a serene ranch in Montana, perhaps it is the antiques that we see the cowboys pull off. Or the local politics in Montana that threatens the Yellowstone ranch's very existence? Or maybe it is the highly engaging characters of the show.

Yellowstone narrates the story of the Dutton family as they fight against enemies despite all odds to protect their family legacy from being seized. With the arrival of its prequel mini-series 1883, the show was provided with a strong backstory. According to reports, the Yellowstone prequel will have additional episodes but any possibilities of a second season have been dismissed by the creators.

Yellowstone cast includes actors Kevin Costner, Cole Hauser, Ian Bohen, Piper Perabo and Kelly Reilly among others. The show is expected to return for Season 5 soon, which will be divided into two segments. While the show is seemingly driven by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), the female characters play an equally important role in the series.

Bethany Dutton

Bethany 'Beth' Dutton is the daughter of John Dutton. A cut-throat businesswoman, she cares the least about the ranch life yet she is majorly protective of her family land and reputation. She loses her job at a Montana bank when she is removed at the demand of the bank shareholders. Beth gets married to Rip Wheeler in the season finale of Yellowstone Season 4. The character is played by Kelly Reilly.

Monica Dutton

The role of Monica Dutton is played by actor Kelsey Asbille. Descending from Indian ancestors, the character grew up on the American ranch with her brother Robert. She then goes on to start a family with John Dutton's youngest son Kayce. An educator by profession, Monica doesn't approve of the Yellowstone ranch as she feels the land belonged to her ancestors. Her resentment towards John and the Yellowstone ranch does take a toll on her marriage.

Teeter

Played by Jennifer Landon, Teeter is tougher than most cowboys around her. A Texan ranch hand, she moves to work with the Duttons on their home ranch. At the end of Season 3, she takes revenge on the people who horsewhipped her while she was skinny dipping and became the first woman character to be "branded" on the show- making her part of the Yellowstone family.

Summer Higgins

American actor Piper Perabo plays the role of Summer Higgins in Yellowstone series. She made her first appearance in episode 5 of Season 4. While her character is relatively new to the show, she has a powerful personality as an environmental activist protesting against the industrialised farming practices in Montana. According to reports, there is a possibility of a budding romance between John Dutton and Summer Higgins in the upcoming season.
