Mirka Federer met Roger Federer long before his first grand slam win. The two tennis players met at the 2000 Olympics games in Sydney while representing Switzerland. The two also teamed together at the Hopman Cup in 2002. Mirka Federer, who played using her maiden name Vacrinec, decided to step back from professional tennis in the year 2002 because of a persistent and challenging injury. The couple dated for nine years before tying the knot in the year 2009 in Basel, Switzerland.

The couple welcomed their first set of kids - identical twins - a few months after their wedding. They welcomed a second set of identical twins in 2014. The mother of four always made it a point to bring her children to watch their father play at the grand slams, something that Roger Federer finds his strength in.

Terming his decision to retire as bittersweet, Federer made it a point to publicly thank his wife for the decades of support she has given him. In a video he shared on social media, the 20 major titles winner shared how Mirka Federer prepared him before all his finals and watched countless matches of him even at a time when she was eight months pregnant with the twins. He acknowledged how Mirka stayed by his team's side as well for the past two decades.

Mirka Federer is also a philanthropist who has supported several causes over the years through the Roger Federer Foundation. Also a dog lover, Mirka Federer welcomed their dog, Willow, to the family earlier this year.

Most importantly, and evidently, Mirka Federer has kept the Tennis champion grounded all these years, and his humility reflects that in more ways than one.
