Mary Kom’s performance in the Women’s World Championship 2019
36-years-old legendary boxer has finished her campaign at the Women’s World Championship on Saturday with a bronze medal in the semi-finals. Certainly, with six gold medals in hand, Mary was aiming at her seventh. With a victory of 5-0 over the 2016 Championship’s Bronze medallist of Colombia, Ingrit Valencia in the quarter-finals, the gold seemed a strong possibility. However, She lost her semi-final bout with Turkey’s European Champion and second-seeded Busenaz Cakiroglu as it ended with 1-4 score and thus Kom had to settle for the bronze medal.
India protested semifinal’s decision:
As the semifinal bout at Ulan-Ude Russia ended, India raised a Yellow Card and protested against the decision. The protest demanded a reconsideration of the whole bout and the decision. However, the protest was turned down as AIBA’s instruction at Team Meeting on Saturday made it clear that protests would be considered only if the score was 3:1 or 3:2.
Mary Kom later took to twitter to express her disappointment and questioned the referee. She tweeted, tagging the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “How and why. Let the world know how much right and wrong the decision is…”
