Shabana Azmi Injured In Car Accident On Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi got injured on Saturday afternoon in a car accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Her car dashed against a truck on the highway to Pune, near Khalapur at around 4:15 pm. She was sitting behind the driver and suffered critical injuries. Reportedly, another unidentified woman was severely injured in the accident. Her husband, the eminent lyricist, Javed Akhtar was also travelling in the car. However, the police reported that he is safe. Initially, she was taken to the MGM Hospital in Navi Mumbai. As per recent reports, Azmi is out of danger and is being treated at Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri.

The Raigad police have issued an official notice regarding the same. Soon after the news of the accident spread, several actors and celebrities took to their social media handles to pray for the actor’s speedy recovery. Calling the expressway a death trap, filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted that rash driving is very prominent on that route. Moreover, he claimed that there has been negligible monitoring for its prevention. He has asked the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to look into the cause and take appropriate measures to improve safety.

Amidst the good wishes for the actress, Shraddha Kapoor appealed in her tweet, “This is a request to all our friends in the media if someone has met with an accident please don’t put up those photos. Please have some empathy and sensitivity and think how distressing this can be to their family members and loved ones. Please take it down immediately. Thank You.”

The incident took place just a day after Javed Akhtar celebrated his 75th birthday in Mumbai.
