Who Is Kemi Badenoch ? The United Kingdom is gearing up for the Prime Minister elections and a new name has emerged as a leading contender which is Kemi Badenoch. This British politician of Nigerian descend led the Conservative Party member's polls announced recently.
The UK PM elections is the highlight of the current issues as British politician of Indian descend, Rishi Sunak seemed as a leading contender for the post. He had previously served as the chief secretary of the Treasury under the former PM Boris Johnson from 2019 to 2022 and is a popular choice among voters. However, in the recent poll conducted by the Conservative Party of Tory voters, a new but familiar name came up. Kemi Badenoch, another Conservative Party MP, led the polls and pushed Rishi Sunak to the fourth position, indicating a change in dynamics of the election.
Who Is Kemi Badenoch?
Born on January 2, 1980, Kemi addresses herself as a 'first generation' immigrant because of her Nigerian roots despite being born in Wimbledon, London. She came from a middle class family where her father was a general practitioner and her mother a professor of physiology. She has two siblings, a sister and a brother. She spent most of her childhood in Lagos and US before moving to UK at the age of 16. She worked at McDonald's during her A Level studies from Phoenix College, Morden and completed her Masters in Computer Systems Engineering in 2003 from University of Sussex.
Kemi Badenoch has a diverse work experience. She went on to spend 3 years, from 2003 to 2006 working in the IT sector, learned law in 2009, completing her LLB from University of London, served as the associate director of Coutts from 2006 to 2013 and from 2015 to 2016, she worked as a digital director for The Spectator. Her political career began in 2005, when she joined the Conservative Party and went to contest general elections of 2010 in UK but lost. Finally, after taking up various positions and roles, she was elected as a Member of UK Parliament in 2017 from Saffron Walden seat.
The politician identifies herself as right-wing and anti-woke, she is considered a favourite among Tory Party voters for her support to the Brexit (the exit of Britain from European Union) which reflected clearly in the recent polls where she led the list of contenders with 11 points. She is being considered as a 'wild card' that can change the course of the elections.
