Across social media and street style, ties are being worn with oversized coats, relaxed blazers, shirts left deliberately unbuttoned, and even over sarees. Today, ties are not only limited to office meetings and business deals, but are also worn as part of daily style. Ties are re-emerging in an absolutely unexpected way, not as an obligation or formality but as a choice.
When the Tie Goes Desi
Designers and independent labels are pushing the tie beyond its usual identity, more than the traditional pairing of a tie with a suit.
Ties are now paired with sarees and made intricately, embedded with artificial stones and handcrafted beads, changing the way we usually look at them.
Surbhi Manocha Choudhary, founder of handloom store Ekobae (ekobae.com_) shares, "We want to redefine Indian power dressing by transforming the traditionally male necktie into jewellery."
She added that they pair handmade glass-bead craftsmanship with a handblock saree to create a look that is both subversive and effortlessly cool.
From Formal to Personal Style
Today, the tie is a tool for thoughtful styling. Paired with oversized coats, relaxed blazers, open shirts, or layered ensembles, it introduces shape and focus without feeling rigid.
Fashion creator Sameer Mark (@sameer_mark) explains, “I use ties as a way to add intention to an outfit. They bring structure even to relaxed looks.
He added "When styled with coats, blazers, or unexpected pieces, ties shift from formality to expression.”
Showing Quiet Rebellion
For many, the tie’s appeal lies in how quietly it resists the norm. Stylist and creative Allen Claudius (@bowtieandbonesblog) sees it as a form of understated norm.

He shared that he deliberately styles neckties out of their formal setting or traditional sense.
"It’s an attempt to allude to structure in a world that’s forgotten how to dress with intention," he says.

Why the Tie Works Today
This revival isn’t about nostalgia or returning to old dress codes. It’s about reclaiming control over how one is seen. The modern tie is genderless, flexible, and personal. It signals care as a reminder that style can still be thoughtful without being loud.
The tie’s return reflects a broader shift in fashion, moving away from strict binaries of formal and casual. By styling it freely, wearers aren’t reviving tradition; they’re reshaping it. The tie no longer enforces rules; rather, it expresses individuality, one knot at a time.
