Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu and his estranged wife, Pramila Srinivasan, are amid what has become one of the most talked-about divorce cases. Background and Filing for Divorce
- Sridhar Vembu founded Zoho Corporation, a major global software company, and has long been recognised as a prominent tech entrepreneur.
- Vembu's net worth is estimated at $5.85 billion, placing him among India's 40 richest people.
- He and Pramila Srinivasan were married in 1993 and lived in California, USA, for nearly 25 years.
- The couple has a son who reportedly has special needs (autism), and Pramila is involved in an autism-related nonprofit organisation.
- Pramila reportedly learned of Vembu’s intention to divorce via WhatsApp in 2020, and the formal divorce petition was filed in August 2021 in a U.S. court.
Claims made by Pramila Srinivasan
- In court filings, Pramila has alleged that Vembu abandoned her and their son when he moved back to India in 2019 to focus on rural development and running Zoho from Tamil Nadu.
- She has also claimed that Vembu carried out complex transfers of company ownership and property, allegedly shifting significant Zoho assets, including shares, to his brother and other parties without her knowledge or consent.
- In a 2023 court filing, she said, "My husband of 29 years not only abandoned me and our son, he decided to make fictitious transfers or ‘sales' of our most valuable community asset to his family members without their paying any cash or other consideration, and without ever telling me or asking my permission.
- Her lawyers said that several asset transfers were hidden from her, including the $50 million sale of Zoho's intellectual property to an India-based company, ZPCL, with no clear record of payment.
- According to her filings, these transfers are meant to deny her her fair share of marital assets in accordance with California’s community property laws.
Sridhar Vembu's Response
- Vembu has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “completely false” in statements shared by his attorney.
- According to his legal team, Vembu owns just 5% of Zoho Corporation Private Limited, and he has previously offered half of his shares to his wife, an offer she reportedly did not accept.
- Vembu's lawyer, Christopher C Melcher, revealed records back to 2011 show that Sridhar holds the same amount of shares today as he did then," the lawyer wrote in a post on X.
As Sridhar Vembu’s attorney, I can provide the real background for those who have any question whether Sridhar has done anything wrong. The allegations made by his wife are completely false and this story is likewise untrue.

Sridhar owns 5% of the shares of Zoho Corporation…
- A Superior Court of California judge issued an order directing Vembu to post a $1.7 billion (about ₹15,000 crore) bond as part of the divorce proceedings to protect community assets.
- Sridhar Vembu and Pramila Srinivasan's divorce has garnered attention as one of the most expensive cases. Some of the most expensive divorces include Bill and Melinda Gates ($73 billion), Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott ($38 billion), and Alec and Jocelyn Wildenstein ($3.8 billion).
