Women’s Hockey Team Spain tour ends

Indian women stormed into the next round of the ongoing five-nation Asian Champions Trophy women's hockey tournament, defeating Malaysia 2-0, keeping up hopes of making it to the final.

The team is being lauded for its recent performances. They grounded Malaysia's attempts to take the lead in their third pool match of the Champions Trophy. While Poonam scored a field goal in the first seven minutes, Deepika scored double with a successful penalty corner conversion in the 45th minute.

Right till the end, the Malaysian team could not seek a penalty corner because of the strong defence put up by the Indians.

With this win, coach Neil Hawgood’s squad remained at the top of the pool table with seven points -- above Korea, China, Japan and Malaysia respectively.

So far, Deepika has been the highest goal scorer in the tournament.

The Indian team, ranked 12th in the world, will next face off No.8 China on November 4.

The top two teams at the end of the match will directly qualify for the final, while the third and the fourth best teams will aim for bronze medal encounter on Saturday.
