Women in the tech have taken the world by storm. Even though we keep talking about how more women are required in the STEM fields, we often forget to celebrate the ones who have broken the strong glass ceiling and are inspiring many others to follow their example. Huffington Post  lists a few such women

 

JESSICA GREENWALT

The co-founder and Lead Designer of CrowdMed, Greenwalt started her entrepreneurial journey when she founded a freelance design company which grew into an international design and Web development firm. Today her venture, CrowdMed, helps diagnose medical issues faster and more accurately, and has revolutionarized the health sector.

 

ALICE BROOKS and BETTINA CHEN

Founders of Roominate, both Alice and Bettina spent their childhoods rather differently than most young girls. When Alice asked her dad for a Barbie, he gave her a saw instead and she made her own doll out of wood and nails. Bettina too grew up playing with Lego blocks and both of them today own their innovative line of wired building toys for girls, designed to get girls excited about STEM fields.

 

POOJA SANKAR

The CEO and Founder of Piazza, Sankar is an IIT-Kanpur alumina and was one of the only three women in her undergraduate computer science class. She told Huffington Post  that the reason she developed Piazaa was so unlike her, students all over could benefit from the intellectual space, freedom, or support to fulfill their educational potential and desire for learning.

 

ROSE BROOME

Broome is the Founder and CEO of HandUp, a direct donation system for homeless people and neighbors in need that allows one to donate via their web profile and SMS. The service allows you to use funds on basics like food, medical care, and housing. HandUp is currently working with 100 homeless people in San Francisco, in partnership with Project Homeless Connect.

 

GRACE GAREY

Garey works with Watsi, a global crowd funding platform that enables anyone to directly fund health care for people around the world. Garey has worked with the underprivileged all around the world. She first studied post-conflict development in Ghana, lived in a hospital in India and launched a student outreach program at Kiva generating over $5 million for entrepreneurs in its first year.
