An all-woman bikers’ contingent of the CRPF will make its appearance and showcase risky daredevil stunts at the January 26 Republic Day ceremony at Rajpath, officials announced.

The 65-member unit will present its acrobatic skills on 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles towards the end of the over 90-minute-long parade.

CRPF spokesperson Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Moses Dhinakaran told PTI that it would be the first time that their women bikers are going to be a member of the Republic Day parade. “This squad, established in 2014, is a part of our dedication to involving women in all fields of duties performed by us,” he added.

In 1986, the CRPF had trained the first armed women’s force in the Asian region. And at present, it has six such assemblages with over 1,000 personnel in each.

CRPF trainers chose the members of the team explicitly. They are in the age groups of 25 to 30. “Formed from several combat rank of forces,” another executive stated.

This women bikers’ team, the executive said, had performed at the birth anniversary festivities of country’s premier home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31 last year at Kevadia in Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony.
