Woman Tied To Tree, Assaulted Over Property Row
A video showing a woman tied to a tree and being assaulted over a property dispute is going viral on social media. The incident happened in Bilwa village of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan.
According to the police, the 32-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted on July 6 after being tied to a tree by three men over an ongoing property dispute. The three accused have been arrested.
“The woman in the video lives in the village along with her husband and children. For some time, the family had a property dispute with Maniram, the brother of the victim’s husband,” said Surendra Singh Degra, Station House Officer (SHO), Nawal Garh police station, Jhunjhunu, reported Indian Express.
He revealed that on the day of the incident, the woman’s brother-in-law, Maniram, was driving a tractor near the land that the two families own. The place where he was driving is also the disputed area. Both the families claim stakes in the land.
“On seeing her brother-in-law near the area, the woman tried to stop him. This infuriated Maniram and his family,” he added.
Soon after this, they started assaulting the woman and tied her to a tree. The victim’s son tried to stop them but in vain.
A case has been filed by the victim and her family against Maniram and his family.
Maniram, his wife Manesh and daughter Sanju have been arrested and primary investigations are underway. The SHO revealed, “Preliminary investigation suggests that somebody had filmed a video of the woman being assaulted that went viral on social media on Monday.”
The case has been lodged under sections 323, 341, 342, 354 and 143 of the Indian Penal Code. These include punishments for voluntarily causing hurt, for wrongful restraint, for wrongful confinement and assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
