People have begun to crowd the riverbank, hoping to get a glimpse of the holy figure. Locals believe that when the woman emerged from the waves, she was in the guise of Maa Narmada, the river's goddess.

Woman Mistaken As Goddess At Narmada River

The footage quickly went viral, with the caption "lady walking on Narmada river surface at Tilwara Ghat, Jabalpur." The scene was straight from an imaginary fairy tale. The crowd grew as more folks came to seek the 'holy woman's blessings.

Drums rang out, and a security zone was established around her. Even law enforcement was called in to look into the situation. Yet, surprising to everyone's astonishment, the woman denied walking on water or being an embodiment of any divinity.

Had Abandoned Her House, Claims Elderly Woman

Jyoti Raghuvanshi, the woman, told authorities she was a Narmadapuram native who had left her house 10 months ago. The police promptly contacted her relatives and arranged for her to return to her hometown, Narmadapuram.

The enigma of her ability to walk on water was eventually uncovered. She stated that the Narmada River's water level varies and may be exceedingly low in some spots.

The video was not shot in Tilwara Ghat, as previously stated, but rather at a place where the water level was so low that the woman was walking on the river bed. Yet, by that time, the rumour had gone far and wide, and the woman had become a legend thanks to her own right, according to authorities.

Yearned To Experience The Pilgrimage To the Narmada River

Jyoti Raghuvanshi described her experience as a pilgrimage to circumambulate (Parikrama) the Narmada River as a gesture of devotion.

She went along the river's banks and, when the water level was low, on the river bottom. She didn't move in water depths and only swam when necessary. Her voyage was peppered with stops along the road where she offered indigenous medicine to those in need.

Authorities stated that they are returning her to her family in Narmadapuram, who have been looking for her for the past ten months. As per the cognisance, the Police are also making endeavours to make sure no harm has been caused to her and she is medically healthy.
