Khadakwasla Dam Accident: Four people died on the Pune-Panshet road after their car fell into the backwaters of the Khadakwasla dam. The incident took place around 5 pm on Friday near Kuran Phata.
Vitthal Keshav Bhikule, the woman’s husband, has survived the car accident.
The deceased have been identified as Alpana Vitthal Bhikule, her daughters Prajakta, Pranita and Vaidehi, police said.
Bhikule, who was driving the car, is suspected to have lost control at Kuran Phata following which the car falls into the backwaters.
The police informed that the family is a resident of Chavan Nagar in the Dhankawdi area of Pune city. According to reports, the family was returning to Pune city via the Panshet road.
According to reports, the local residents rushed to the accident spot and Pune rural police along with the PMRDA fire brigade were informed of the accident. Following which PMRDA firemen and a team from the Velha police station reached the spot for the rescue operation.
Devendra Potphode, PMRDA fire chief reportedly said that the firemen brought out four dead bodies during the search and rescue operation. "The driver was also rescued," he added.
Pune rural police informed that they are investigating the matter to find out what led to the accident.

Five children died on March 24 in Jalore after a car on their way hit them on their way home from school. The car's driver was later arrested. The SUV hit the children in the Raniwara area of Jalore district in Rajasthan. The police said that four children had died on the spot while another died in hospital due to serious injuries. One child was rescued who was getting treatment at a hospital in the Sanchore area of the district.
The driver was later identified as Suresh Rajput and the children were identified as students of Government Secondary School in Dantwara village.
