Over the years, many hospitality employees have come forward to speak up about the toxic work culture in the industry with tediously exploiting employees. And it seems like the work culture is even worse if you are a woman working in the male-dominated industry of hospitality, as a confession post of a woman working in a restaurant has surfaced on the internet.

A woman chef working in a restaurant has confessed to the social media discussion site Reddit about how, after being fed up with her toxic work culture, she changed the passwords of her manager and ex-colleagues, tampering with the database of the entire former workplace through a fake email.

Why Did She Quit?

A Reddit post shared by a woman five months ago confessing what she did after quitting a toxic work environment has now surfaced on the Internet, as the discussion app has shared the confession on its Instagram page, dividing the internet in two.

A woman working in a restaurant as an "a-line chef" shared her ordeal with a toxic work culture on Reddit about how "awfully" she was treated as the only woman on the team and how the entire team used to join in to do so. The woman, however, said in the post that she did not want to play the "gender card."

The woman shares how she was being treated like a "doormat," but she endured the bad behaviour of her ex-colleagues despite never being rude to them, only because she was in desperate need of the job and was bad at confrontations.

The woman in the comments of her Reddit post also shared how it is very hard to survive in the male-dominated industry as she recalled being pitied for not knowing better or doing enough despite being excellent at her job. She was even commented on for her looks by saying she looked like a mess while working, making her self-conscious as her male colleagues used to team up against her.

As per the post, on one evening before quitting, she was already upset by some sour events and decided it was her "last straw" and left the restaurant and never returned. She shares that she is bad at handling conflicts; she never answered her colleagues' calls or WhatsApp texts.

She shared she didn't even care what she did later was "immature" and "petty," but a week later, after she had quit, she realized she was still logged in to her manager's account and he hadn't changed the password yet. It was then that she decided to create a fake email and change everyone's passwords in the entire restaurant's database including staff, menus, stocks, ordering, etc., so that she could snatch access to everyone by changing their passwords through a fake email.

The woman's confession post concluded with her saying that she does not know what happened next, but she was never contacted by anyone from her workplace again, and she has now stopped going to that part of town.

Internet Divided:

While the post was shared five months ago on the discussion app Reddit, many other women Redditors stepped out under the comments of the confession post sharing facing similar experiences in their work culture as the only woman in the team. Many others shared their ordeals at workplaces as well under the OP's post.

However, as the post surfaced on the internet after Reddit's Instagram page shared it on Instagram two days ago, it has divided the internet as many Instagrammers called out her behaviour as a "childish act" and that the woman would need to stand up for herself.

One user commented, "This is never the right thing to do. Not speaking up for yourself, doing something petty in secret to get back at everyone, and then avoiding them for the rest of your life. How incredibly spineless, spiteful, and immature."

Another comment that had the most likes read, "Honestly, good for you... but you gotta learn to stand up for yourself because you can't do this at every place they disrespect you."

One other user delved deeper into the OP's actions as they commented, "Sorry, but I found this childish. Did this team include the manager? If not, why not file a complaint with someone else? Also, why does her not being able to communicate her issue have to impact the entire business?"

While many women face gender partiality in workplaces, which is a pervasive issue that makes the work culture toxic, it is also important to remember that you have rights and that you deserve to be treated fairly at work. By speaking up and taking action, you can help to create a more equitable and inclusive workplace for everyone.

I left a job, and then I changed everyone’s passwords.
