Suman Goyal is an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer of batch 2005. She is recently in news for stopping the doctors from marching towards the Supreme Court.
She is a commerce graduate from Sri Ram College Of Commerce, Delhi University.
She had also started one project called Salamat. The project aims at area safety based on the perception of the public. Normally you will find that a person feels safe at a particular place and unsafe maybe after 200 meters or after 100 meters. For this reason, many facilities are provided, one of them is proper street lighting in some high-tech sectors.
There is an app on the play store Salamat, which is available on both Apple and Android. If someone is feeling uncomfortable they can immediately leave a link on the app and on the basis of that, the police will analyse what is required. As a team in coordination with NGOs and the public, they investigate and take the action.
Why has she been in news recently?
For several days, hundreds of resident doctors from various government hospitals in Delhi have been protesting, demanding that the NEET-PG counseling process be accelerated.
On Tuesday, doctors were attempting to march towards the Supreme Court when they were stopped by the Delhi Police and they were reportedly beaten up. On Monday, the protest took a dramatic turn when doctors and police officers clashed on the streets of Delhi, resulting in injuries on both sides.
The protest's organisers, the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA), claim that several of their members were "detained" on Monday as they attempted to march from Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to the Supreme Court.
Additional Commissioner Suman Goyal said that the police have high regard for the doctors especially during the pandemic time but they were jamming the ITO junction at around 9:30 p.m while marching towards the Supreme Court, so they had to be stopped.
